just purchased a ticket for the Suns game tomorrow, and just wants to know if anyone here had any problems bringing their camera in an NBA game? I'm surprised that there is no NBA related pics in the sharing section. Any tips on this would be great thx.

I think that answered your question. ;)
Because they don't allow lenses over a certain length into most stadiums if I'm not mistaken.
I guess you might not have a problem if you take the 50mm 1.8 or 1.4 (fast lenses) and sit in the front row...hehe.

Actually a lot of sport venues pick on any 'professional' photography gear as something you'll not be allowed without a permit. Professional can be anything with an interchangeable lens at the very least.
The problem is if you are denied you then have to make it all the way back to your car to drop the lens off, and then leave it in a darkened parking lot for the duration of the game.
Your probably just better off not taking it and enjoying the Suns get beat. :)

Of course I should shut up, living in the home of the Kings. Would have been nice if thay had actually turned up to their play off games.

I see a disapointed Queens fan..;) but yeah this is what I'm worried about running back and forth to the arena. Spent a pretty good amount of money on this ticket so I think might as well bring my digital rebel with Tamron 28-300 Di and try to snap some good pics of Suns trying to sweep the Mavs:). I've seen some post with NHL pics so why not in NBA?

Yeah but we can all enjoy not sucking as hard as the lakers. :)
Why not check the stadium website, or give them a call. At least it'll give you an idea what to expect.

I suspect you'll be asked to stop taking photos, or they'll stop you bringing your camera and large lens in.

nothing on their website, yeah i'm definitely calling them tomorrow I'm just so psyched up about this game. But a guy that called the arena before said that AWA allows camera unless it's a special event without telling him what makes a "special event" is. If not I'll be forced to take a tiny Point and Shoot.:(

Unless your shooting a 2.8 lens I wouldn't waste my time. Enjoy the game instead of chimping and try to guess your settings. Guys shooting NBA games are strobing the game from the rafters, using highend camreas and nothing less than 2.8 lens.

thx for saying this, I'll bring my 2.8 lens too then. I just think it's worth a try to get some really close shot.

Well I took my Digital Rebel with 75-300 pos into a few Mavs games earlier this season, with no trouble at all. Then for christmas i got a 70-200 f/4. I tried to take it in once, and they said i couldn't, that it was professional gear. They stored it in a room where i picked it up after the game. Next day, I called up to American Airlines Center, talked around to a few people, and got permission to take it in. The guy said that with new technology and such its impossible to keep people from taking pictures. So I took it in for a few games, got some decent shots.
