These are all pretty nice snaps. I think that the only real thing that I could say about the first one is watch the vertical AND horizontal orientation. The back grounds in a few are cluttered, but that's often the nature of snap-shooting children. I have my issues photographing children and often even "posed" ( yeah, right. Posing a 3 year old...) shots are victims of the impish nature of a child to not smile. These appear well exposed, and the color balance is good on my calibrated monitor. #'s 3, 4, and 5, are good shots especially.

Wow thanks, didn't even notice the background was crooked on the first pic until you mentioned it :) :)

Oh my, your nephew is so adorable! My favorites are #2 and #5. The expression you captured in #2 is precious. He looks like he's having so much fun. #5 is adorable too...great job on #5's exposure, lighting, and DOF.

Kind of an unfortunate confluence of topic title and screenname (My nephew - Drowned), but it did catch my attention ;)

My two cents:

Keep taking pictures. In fact, get a large capacity SD or CF card and set your camera to continuous shooting. With 3-yr olds, you can't wait for nor can you make them smile (or frown or flash that particular expression that you desire )the way you want them to - though I've read somewhere Tyra Banks have 15 smiles she can wear at command for her photgraphers.

Background, as noted by earlier response, is definitely one of the areas that can be improved. #2 has a potted plant right behind him in a manner that detracts from the essential subject matter - his muddy hand and the expression of pleasure (of seeing his muddy hand). If the planter pot was something he stuck his hand in, you may even incorporate it into a composition to make a story.

If the equipment allows, shoot with wider aperture. One's instinct is to use Tv (shutter-priority) for moving figures but try setting the camera in Av (aperture priority mode) with the f/stop at lens's widest aperture or one-stop down.

#4 is great: thumbsup
