Have you tried a noise reduction program with this photo...it lacks crispness that I am use to seeing on bird shots...

its not a bad subject, but has it been enlarged or have you got the iso to high? as the noise(grain) is very noticable and therefore tends to make the picture not as defined as it should be.

Yup, too much noise...did you use noise filter to clean it up a bit? Like noise ninja?

The reason for the noise I think is the crop. I haven't tried to remove the noise, but I have read that noise ninja is a very good program with a very good rate of efficiency in removing noise in photos.
I really don't know where the injury came from, but that is the reason for the title...;) . I really like the position of the bird and I will try and fix the photo...
