I have been an SLR girl for years, but I'm finding I miss some good "friends and family" type shots when I don't want to lug my Xti around with me. Thus, its time to get a point and shoot! I have only owned one, a gift from many many years ago... I think a 3.2 megapixel that took about 15 seconds to focus on anything.

My main concerns are size (small enough to slip into a pocket!), shutter lag, and cost. I have a camera to take artsy shots with, I want a camera that I'm not afraid to every single place I go to catch some fun family shots.

For this reason, I'm thinking the Powershot 1200. The price is certainly right at about $170, its very compact, and the reviews seem to be mostly good. Because this is the first time I've ever looked into point-and-shoots though, I wanted to check and see if there was any major issues with this camera I had not considered... or if there was a better option for me.

Thanks!

Just that it has no manual settings, no real aperture camera only uses an nd filter for 2nd aperture (f2.8 & f8) at wide angle, with the small lens you don't need a small aperture for good DOF
The camera shows you the settings it will use you just have to be creative to get the image you want using exposure and focus lock, or +/- ev settings, My SD's are the same except the SD990 it has manual
