The Mandibles & The Animal Folk - Feedback wanted

I'd like to get into gig photography and have shot a couple of gigs at a local pub. I'm coming into this from a background of graphic design and only have limited photography experience so I'd like critical feedback.

The feedback I've had so far has been very positive, but it's not been from photographers. Which lens were you using?

If you're coming at this with "limited experience", I'd say you're doing pretty good so far! :D

Thanks, for these pictures I used a Canon 50mm f/1.4, wide open at ISO 1600 as the light was so poor. I've edited all the pictures significantly to remove the harsh reds (typical small venue lights) and some noise and a couple have been cropped.

I only recently bought my first DSLR camera, a 40D, and this was the second gig I've done, and the first with a suitable lens. My only previous experience with photography are as part of a college course a few years ago, with some cheap B&W film cameras, and photos I've taken for myself or graphic design projects using a Canon IXUS point and shoot.
