They are too small to tell, but is that muck being kicked up by the horses that is filling the sky or is your sensor in need of a clean?

dirt flying up from hooves...looks pretty cool when not limited by a 100k file

Hard to get detail or expression of the riders/horses. What are the detail on ISO, Shutter Speed and fstop? Did you use a tripod?

Hey, a fellow new mexico photog.
Cool shots, look soft to me, but maybe its just too much jpeg compresion and also the horizions in the background are slanted, some work in photoshop could fix that.

Good to see some more horse racing here! I have some great fun shooting it...
As Zamora says, it may just be in the way the images have been saved for the web, but the pics look a little soft on my monitor. Also, the crops are not quite right - image #1 might be better for showing the horses to the extreme right... and it's a shame that in image #2 parts of the the horses legs are cropped off.
Otherwise, good stuff... and I'm looking forward to seeing some more of your horse racing work soon!

i will work on the jpeg compression...they look great uncompressed and on paper as well...

I'm just transitioning from using a film camera, and took this using a borrowed Canon 5.1 MP digital camera (sorry, don't know the model).
This is the break from the 1st at Keeneland on April 27th.

I only found out after my Keeneland trip how to turn off the digital zoom.
