I am a new Canon Rebel XT user and I had purchased the Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Lens as my general purpose lens. This appears to be a great lens thus far but is just a little slow for my indoor needs.
I shoot a lot of indoor concerts and am considering getting a faster lens. I am strongly looking at the Sigma 24-135mm f/2.8-4.5 Aspherical IF AutoFocus Wide Angle Zoom Lens. I was wondering if anyone out there already owns this lens and uses it on a Canon camera to shoot low light pictures? Or any comments in general.
Thanks.
Jon

Get the most expensive "L" lens you can find. Do a second on the house if you have to because, after all the better your lens the better photographer you are. Then sit around your computer all day and run your posts up so you can be a senior member. Don't actually go out and shoot, stay home and process the five raw files you have until they are just right while you post to this forum. The longer I lurk around these forums the more convinced I am that Rockwell is right! You guys need to stop posting and start shooting! I've visited some of the galleries. Give me a break!
. . . care to show us examples of some of your (no doubt exemplary) work, then?
There are a number of concert-shooters around; I don't recall any of them using the lens you're mentioning. Mostly, they point to the 50 mm (1.8 or 1.4, depending on budget), the 85 f/1.8, and the 24-70/70-200 f/2.8 L IIRC.

I am a new Canon Rebel XT user ..
Mark, I'm also a new XT user, and I purchased the 50 f1.8 mainly because people here and elsewhere were raving about it, and because its so dirt cheap ( $$$ ). It is my favorite lens (I have a Sigma 70-300 APO and the kit lens).
I don't know if the 50 mm range will be sifficient for you, so an 85mm might be better.
Happy shooting.

Robert, I got an EF 50mm also as it was very reasonably priced. But it's use is limited unless you are at an event where you can get up and walk around. Which I usually cannot. I do a lot of band concert photography and some of the indoor stuff at the high schools can be challenging (which is good) for a rookie like me. Dark stages and spotlights have been giving me fits so far. What i have been using on my Rebel XT are: a Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II and a Canon EF 75-300mm IS USM.
Other than the occasional close up of people that appear to be glowing I have been fairly satisfied. It was suggested to me that I needed a faster lens which is why I started reading threads like this one and lens reviews.
I read a posting today that suggested tweaking the XT parameter settings to sharpen the image and to lower the saturation. Which sounds like something I need to try.

The sigma 24-135/2.8-4.5 lens is not enough improvement to make a difference i think.it just won't be worthwhile-one stop improvement is not enough
You will likely need to look at prime lenses

"Give Me A Break"..... Who are you, Jon Stossel
At least we post our images to be seen. I'd LOVE to see some of YOUR astounding work. This is a great forum where people post and help each other out as much as possible. Some people post photos knowing that they are not the greatest in hopes of people giving CONSTRUCTIVE criticizm to make their work better.
Okay, I'm gonna go now, I need to go out and take some more photos... Not sit here and run up my posts to become a senior member.
