I was very disappointed at the lighting at the Madison Sqare Garden For NYU's graduation ceremony.Thought it was gonna be much brighter but thank goodness I had a tripod with me.
This is my first attempt at something like this with my new gear and I've made some mistakes. Just getting to learn the camera a little bit better.
Pics taken at 1/25 ISO 1600
A guy next to me had a 2.8....Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Ill get mine soon enough.hehe:p
The wide angle shot shows where I was sitting.
Did not relocate for the shot taken with the 70-200

I'd like to see the shots using the 70-200 F4, mines on the way.

Pretty good considering the tough lighting conditions. Looks like the 200 f/2.8L might be a "cheap" solution to shooting indoors. Although it looks like you need some more zoom but not bad

Lol thanks Andy.
I would probably need a 300 or 400 to get a portrait shot of her from where I sat.
Oh and IS and a tripod and a 1DMK2 haha

Shame you didn't have the 2.8, some background blur might be nice on the first shot. I'm impressed you got the shot at all!

This was the best I could do I think with my equipment and from the distance I sat.Any suggestions would be appreciated.

kelv: sometimes its more about being in the moment rather than capturing that "perfect shot" with that "perfect camera". you done well!
you don't even need to see her face on that last picture to see how proud she is standing up there.
what a wonderful day that must've been.
congrats to sister and to you for being there celebrating that moment with her.

Think of all the folks way up in the stands using their P/S cameras with the built-in flash wondering why everything always looks so dark (and grainy) when they get home and unload the camera.
I think you did excellent, given the circumstances. Darn clear pictures for ISO-1600, too.

tim,
I woulda never fot the shot if I didnt have a tripod.
Shoulda brought a monopod though, it was so cramped with it in front of me in the seat!haha
I know the guy three rows down had a 2.8 from the lens shade.
Oh well I have three kids and tuturing and music lessons for them, bleeds me dry already. Im happy with what I got.
Yeah right! lol

Mtally,
Yeah that reminds me.Not making fun of anyone or whatever but all the people with the point and shoots from the top rows shooting away with their 2 volt flashes makes me kinda chuckle.
