I'm going on a cruise to alaska, and cant decide what to take.
I'm thinking of taking my 20d, with 17-40,100-400,and 28-135. I'm undecided if I should also be taking the 580 flash, tripod, the 70-2002.8, or the extender. Has anyone does this cruise and have any recs. Also I will be bringing my g10 , and sd630 as carry arounds

I did a Alaskan cruise last September, loved it. I think what you are thinking of bringing along makes sense. I used only two lenses the whole trip,17-85 and 100-400. You will want the width and the length but might not want to spend too much time changing lenses, so limiting what you bring might be a good idea. I know leaving the 70-200 at home might be hard, but if I had had one with me I might not have used it much. I brought my tripod with, didn't use it much but glad I brought it. You might want the flash for photos of all the nice people you will meet on board the ship. Here are a few examples from my cruise.

These are all with the 100 -400. I found the lens to be quite versatile.

I agree, two zooms should do it: 1 wide, 1 long. Tri-pod only if you want night shots (hard to do on a moving ship). Flash only if you want photos of people.

I was there last september also, had a great time, lots of fog and rain. Still got some great shots. This is one from a train ride into Canada.
