Hey guys! Pretty excited about this. This is my first attempt at star trails by stacking them. I used the software from Startrails.de and it was pretty simple to use. This image is composed of 57 images at 30 seconds each. I like this technique much better. Less noise is introduced this way. I'm gonna have a lot more fun doing star trails now :)

Oh and the stuff on the ground is several lightning bugs in the area. That's what happens when you live in Iowa in the summer and you go out into the country.

I like it looks good although I thought u might have started at dusk and opened it all the way for an hour, still does do the same effect just sounds like it takes longer post process

I started shooting when there was just a little light left in the sky and the moon was also out. I wanted to get the clouds lit up some. I've done the other method with one long exposure, but all my attempts at the have always resulted in a lot of noise being produced. Not so much here.

That is why we stack images :)

Very nice image and love the bugs as streaks, very wierd and fun :)

Thanks! When I first looked at the image after stacking was done, I thought something in the processing had caused a lot of artifacts to show up in the dark field. Then I remembered all lightning bugs that were out.
