My New Gitzo GT2340L
The only thing that would be better is a series 2 carbon fiber but this is really nice. I just need a head for it now. I got a 484rc2 to get me by until I find the right head. I have only used it once and it is horrible with only one adjustment knob. I think I am going to get a Markins Q3 but I haven't decided for sure.
This tripod has a rapid slide, reversible center column with a retractable, removable weight hook on the bottom. The center column is basalt fiber instead of aluminum like the rest of the tripod. It is 71.7" fully extended or 58.7" without the column extended and the legs can spread at 24, 55 and 80 degrees. Its closed length is 22.4" and weighs 4.2lbs while it holds 19.8lbs. I have had an older Gitzo tripod for video use and the legs were more difficult to adjust. This tripod doesn't allow the legs to turn, only the twist locks. So you can loosen all sections and tighten them in any order, which you couldn't do on older Gitzo tripods. The rapid slide center column is much better than the geared columns but you have to be careful because if you loosen the center column to much it could come crashing down if you aren't paying attention. It doesn't have the normal covers for the top leg sections but it does have a built-in molded cover on the top 6.5" of each leg and it looks very durable. I haven't been able to use it much since I just got it but so far I think it will work perfect for my needs.
