Can anybody recommend a (VERY LIGHTWEIGHT) yet sturdy C stand that can amply hold a regular monolight (5 lbs) and a 22-27" Beauty dish?
Would like to hear suggestions.
I am thinking of this kit from B&H:

I think 'C Stand' and 'Lightweight' is a contradiction in terms.

I'm not quite understanding the locic of why you want a stand to hold that light and BD to be 'very lightweight' ? It has to be sturdy...and if it's really light weight, then you're really going to sandbag it or similar....so what have you gained ?

I just bought two of these http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/243966-REG/Avenger_A2030DKIT_A2030D_Turtle_Base_Century.html Not lightweight, but very sturdy.

I figured as much. It seems the lightest I've seen is the avenger - 12 lbs and can hold a max of 22 lbs.
Will have to check it out in the store to see how it looks and feels.

I use the same c-stands.....absolutely rock solid and wonderful. I will only be buying c-stands from here on out.

I might get the same. The one I linked is just a lbs lighter.

No "might" allowed, Roan. Just do it. Two years from now you'll still be thanking us. I also use the Avenger A2030DKIT (though I got mine while it was known as the A225SKIT). It's indispensible. It makes people think you know what you're doing.
"Lightweight C-Stand" is just as much an oxymoron as George Carlin's famous "jumbo shrimp".

The spec at B&H is wrong!
It should be 12 lbs/ 5.5 kg without the 40' extension arm and D200 grip.
weigh 7.4kg altogether.

Impact C-stand must be super sturdy at 30 lbs (13.6 kg).

What Dave said, Roan. Just do it! The only correction I would add is that it won't be two years - you will thank us two weeks from now! :)

I think the manfrotto 420 CSU is a compromise between a c-stand and a lightweight light-stand with booms.

.......another question.
Does the base of the avenger detach from the rod when storing? This would be great for me as I live in a small 1 bedroom in NYC :-(
..........so my next big purchase will be a C stand/boom kit and the beauty dish. Looking forward to it!!

roanjohn,
there is 3 versions.
There is just the regular non-detachable.
2nd is non-detachable but sliding leg.
3rd is detachable with non sliding leg. I prefer this but then it's the heaviest among the three.
