Hey guys. I have a 20 and a 5D Mark II and an old school 430EZ Speedlite Flash unit. The Flash is Awesome back when I was using my EOS 10S and Elan. I am wondering if it will still work with the new Digital SLR's like my 5D? I know in auto mode, on my 20D it does not work. Can anyone share with me if it will work? Thank you in advance for any information!

check out these links, great information, the second link is compatibility guide, go to the bottom of the page and enter your camera and flash. This post probably should have been in the flash photography thread.

the EZs only work in auto mode on canon film cameras...
they do however work in manual mode with any camera and are amazing with wireless flash triggers...
I have 2 430EZs and a 540EZ that I added a PC sync jack to...
they all work amazingly well and along with my 580EX II give me a wireless 4 flash setup!

OK, little "off topic" but the energy save mode...how can I keep the flashes awake if used off-camera?
As far as I can see from literature, there's no C.Fn to turn the sleep mode off. I've seen a couple of these online for a really good price, and I'm wondering if I can keep them awake for strobist work.
Any help would be great.

Dang, thats what I thought...I suppose there's not even a way of fooling the camera into thinking it's getting a shutter half-press signal is there? Unless I can wire some sort of cable!?
PC from Bowens/Cybersync/PWizard/Skyport to hotshoe for 430EZ with a "pre-trigger" type switch in the middle.
At the price I'm looking at for the flashes, it could be worth a try.

anybody know what signal a film camera sends to flashes when the shutter is half pressed?
because a film camera can wake them up even when they've "auto powered off" I've tested it...

It must be some sort of signal for AF assist and settings, ie. Apertures and SS settings.
Is there anyone on here who works for Canon?
