I saw that a guy had listed two whitelightning 600w monolights for $450 locally. The add went up around two weeks ago and I didn't notice it until about three days ago. I emailed the guy a few times and didn't get a response, so I thought they must have been sold by now. In the meantime I told my friend with the studio told me not to buy anything yet and that he got a letter in the mail from a photographer who was retiring. I went and checked out what he had and walked away with 4 Norman 400w lights, hoods, snoots and 2 stands for $250. My friend told me that he used them years ago and that they were work horses. They are quite old and have a separate power unit that all of the lights plug into. I did call a pro photography store that said that all of the bulbs and modeling lamps are still available. In the meantime the guy with the white lightings emailed me twice tonight. He did have someone interested but it fell through. Should I keep the older 400w Normans or get the whitelightnings and sell the normans? Anythoughts?...Dean

Not knowing too much about the White Lightings, but I have used Normans which are well built and dependable. I'm assuming you bought the 400C battery powered units? If so, they are readily available used so you can add to your set later.

I did get the pack, but I went out and bought new lights today anyway. Someone emailed me offering a great deal and I took it. I just bought a set of 2 Alien Bees 800's for $600. The guy gave me two huge stands, 2 umbrellas and 2 soft boxes. One of which is 2'x3' and one that is 3'x4'. I think I did pretty well for $600. Now to sell the Normans...Dean
