You can't go to Lake Louise without taking the typical shots. Here is my view of the lake.

It is truly a beautiful place.

In your first shot, I suggest you crop out some blue sky to move the far edge of the lake into the lower third of the photo. As it is now, it bisects the shot and isn't as appealing as following the rule of thirds.

Cheers.

Thanks for the advice, but I've never been a follower of 'rules'. If we all follow the rules, then all our work would look the same, right? :) I had already cut out a portion of the rocks because they weren't in focus very well. Otherwise the picture wouldn't have been *as* centered.

Your shot, your choice. No sweat. IMO not as appealing.

Cheers!

I like that image! I also like your postcard of the hotel . Is that the Fairmont ? We just stayed at the Whistler Fairmont and have talked about staying at the one in Banff next summer. If you stayed there, did you like it?

It's the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Hotel. I wish I had stayed there. I live 1 1/2 hours east in Calgary, so I just spent the day walking around the lake taking pictures. I would LOVE to spend a weekend at the Banff Springs Hotel. It's SO beautiful. Considered a castle, which I only recently learned.

I like how you brought the rocks into the composition, it is unfortunate that there was so much cloud, on a sunny day there is no better place IMO to be and photogrph than lake Louise.

I have yet to be there on a good clear day. Last summer, it was raining. :(
