IMO tamron is definately 1.sharper 2.marginally better w contrast 3. 2.8 constant

Not really. I have owned the 28-105 for years and found it perfect as my all days walkaround.
I just sell it now because I bought more lenses to extend my range with the 20d.
If interested, I'll sned you the eBay auction reference. ;)

I have both lenses. The Tamron is definitely sharper. The Canon is very good and has a longer reach. It depends on your priorities; if you are planning to add a 70-200 later I would go with the Tamron.
