What is your budget?
Whats the largest print size you want to do?

If it says Canon or Epson on it you have a good PHOTO printer, If it says HP or Kodak you have an okay to good photo printer, if it says anything else, you may be asking for it.
Just pick the one that meets your print size requirements.

I have the Canon Pixma 8500. Quality is great. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone.

Print size is very much an issue.
There are some printers that will print only smallish prints. There are many that will print up to 8.5 x 11 inches. There are others that will print to 13 x 19 inches. Then there are a few that will print much larger than that. As a general rule, the larger the possible print size, the more they cost to purchase.

I am a Canon guy when it comes to cameras and lenes;however I Love the print quality from my Epson R300(up to 8X10) and Epson 2200(up to 13X19).
The Epson R800 is another great printer.
If I did not chose Epson; I would buy the Canon i9900,I9100 or the Canon I960(last 2 printers are older models and do a Great job)
Go into some stores to test them out....you may have to go to a few since alot of stores don't carry all of them.
For the money;my Epson R300 prints look just as good as my 2200 prints to the naked eye.
But I love the Epson 2200!!!
Good Luck!

I love my Epson R800. The 8 seperate ink tanks are nice. The prints are awesome. The speed is great and it looks good too. I have printed dozens of CDs and DVDs on it. My customers were floored! Oh, and it's very quiet.

I have a Canon pixma ip4000. I am very happy with the quality and speed.
It's also very cheap, and will fit well into your budget.

Me too. It also doubles well as a document printer, having separate black ink for this purpose.

I have an Epson R800 and can highly recommend it. Fantastic quality on gloss, semi-gloss and art paper for both colour and B&W. However, it only prints up to A4 size (width-wise), which is too limiting for me. I am considering its bigger brother, the R1800. The same printer for up to A3+ (width-wise), but I'm holding off a month to see what the just announced R2400 (replacement for the 2100/2200) or even the 4800 Pro reviews are like.

I have a Canon IP5000. Just love it. It even does text on both side of a piece of paper. The image quality is superb, I cannot be happier. The printer cost me about 170 back in November, I think they are a little less right now.

I too have the Canon Pixma 4000. Great printer. Wonderful quality, separate black tanks for photos or text, dual paper feeds. All for around $100 or less with rebates. Don't really see any need to spend more.
I've an Epson Picturemate for 6x4 album photos as it has supposedly one of the best print lifetimes.
