I need a small watertight bag that fits a Canon 5D with a 17-40 f/4L attached. Preferably padded bag, but it do not have to be.
Anyone know a good one for this?

buy large zip lock bags, but your camera and lens in one of them, and put that in your current bag.

watertight, as in for use in a boat and would protect camera in case of a tip over,
or waterticght, as in well protects gear during sudden strong rain shower?

I ordered this recently in preparation for a snorkeling trip. I bought it to keep misc. items dry. It is padded but might not be small enough for you. There's a smaller bag size before this but the mouth is not wide enough to fit your camera + lens attached.
You could in theory put this inside a back pack. Suposedly depending on the weight of the contents, it will float in water if dropped.

I need it when I go on longer trips in the mountains. It is to keep the camera and lens dry if it starts raining heavily.

For something like that where I'd be overnighting with no possibility of having a true dry option, I'd get a roll top dry gear bag. No protection, but I would use that and secondly a padded bag. I put my phone into a small roll top bag when racing my boat in case something should ever happen to me, or a nearby boat.

The LowePro bags that have AW in the name are 'all weather', which means that their is a foldaway 'rain hood' which can be pulled out and over the entire bag, shield it from a downpour. My LowePro 'Stealth Reporter 200AW' has this, for example.

Yeah, i've thought about that. Any brands you can recommend?
Wilt: I need something that fits into my big normal backpack, as a small camera backpack is probably not enough for a trip where we walk 20km inland. ;)

I don't remember the brand of mine, it is a dark red color. Some of them are much heavier duty and would withstand more outward pressure from blunt objects before rupture, which wouldn't be much of a concern for you. Just get one bigger than you think, by the time you roll down the top, you lose about a 1/3 of the space.

I would recommend either a LP Dryzone or one of the Watershed ZipDry bags, which IMO are the best waterproof bags on the market. They make everything from backpacks to duffles to boat bags, in every conceivable size and configuration. http://drybags.com/home.html

I think you're going to want a bag that "collapses" around the camera. Like a dry bag by Sea Line:

A bag like a Lowepro 75AW will just take up too much room or not fit at all.

Sounds like an appropriate use for a garbage bag tucked into the backpack... when raining, you put the entire backpack into it, leaving the straps out the opening, and put the pack on which puts the bag opening against your body, keeping out the rain.
Or how about an Army type rain poncho which goes on over your head after putting the pack on?!

This might be a bit too large but it's well-padded and has a standard roll-top watertight seal. It's got a number of attachment straps so could be strapped to outside your backpack.

I use it to hold a 50D with 24-105 plus one other small lens.

Thanks for all replies! I really appreciate it. I think I have found what I'm looking for: http://www.haglofs.se/prd/visaprod.asp?ID=1806&nid=1132&lang=en&CatNr=235&CatNr2=&xCatNr=&NP=&Q=&HMtrl=&Str=&show=&ak=&nid2=1249
I'll just put my regular small toploader that just about fits the camera with the lens attached into on of those, and I'm good. The above product is very cheap and fairly durable. they only cost around 15 pounds in Norway (which is staggeringly cheap for Norwegian standards) :)

How about a small Pelican case? Super water tight, you'd never have to worry if you dropped it and if you feel tired you can always use it as a small seat!

It takes too much space in my backpack. :)
