Hi guys,

Here are a few shots of a football match I took last Sunday with my 20D.

Note for those not familiar with the game - this is "aussie rules" football, not soccer, rugby or gridiron. It's a national game unique to Australia that's fast moving and very physical (no wussy helmets or shoulder pads here!;) )

Hope you enjoy!

Hi JK,

I was expecting to see the Dockers thrash the Magpies! Still, a very good (2 point?) win to the Tigers. Also, what focal length lens are you using for these, I was looking to get down to a game myself and wonder if it's worth taking along my gear.

Haha.. sorry, no Dockers - maybe next time!

I mostly used my 70-200f4 but also tried my 75-300 which gave better reach.
Sigh! You can never have enough zoomable millimetres at a footy match! :)

cool sport!

That first photo is awesome! I can't make a posed portrait like that and you manage to catch them in the middle of the game with the ball inside it.

mind bogglin

Haha... that was pure luck! I actually like that one the best out of all the pics I took. :D

Agree with Doc on that first image ... you were lucky with the great light. The middle ones seem to be almost pixelating, as though cropped somehow and not enough data for their size, but again, all really spectacular timing, lighting and capture.

The action was a bit too far away for me at the other end of the field, so I had to "zoom" right in!

roanjohn: thanks! :D

I love the intensity of the third - the quad especially!

It's a very intense, fast-paced, violent and exciting game, and I'd certainly like to capture it on camera one day!
