Hi First post so I apologise if the subject has been covered but a search doesn't show a solution for me.
I am using a 300d and a 40d for studio flash photography but all shots are very over exposed to the extent that nearest the flash has no detail at all
Settings for both cameras are
iso 200
shutter speed 125
aperture readings are usually 8 to 11
awb set to flash
As stated I am using studio flash ( just cheapies until I improve ) and I am having no sucess.
I presume I am overlooking something really basic but I just can't see it.
I am metering with a sekonic 300b connected by cord to the flash but triggering the flash for the photo by wireless. I thought this was a problem but comparison with wireless metering shows no difference .
Distance from the subject is approx 8/10 feet.

When you are using the meter are you using it where the subject is located? You should be using the light meter right in front of the subject & have the white dome of the meter facing the lens of your camera.

Welcome to the forums....

Assuming your cameras are in manual mode - turn your ISO down to 100. And then adjust your lights down.

And what was the meter you are using?

Example photos with exif would also help....
