Hi,

Somebody has been used the Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX DG macro lens? I think is similar to Canon 100 F2.8, but with less focusing distance. Thanks

From what I understand, it extends when focusing, which can be a disadvantage when your real close to a subject.

Depends what you mean by focusing distance, they both have virtually the same working distance from subject to sensor plane of about 12 inches. As Naytwan points out the Sigma lens extends when focusing - at 1:1 you have 5 inches between the end of the lens and the subject. The end of the Canon lens (which doesn't extend) is about 6 inches from the subject at 1:1 so in reality not much difference.

It does extend while focussing but that shouldn't bother you. The focussing is slow which should bother you and does cause you to miss a shot occasionally because the lens is trying to catch up. The image quality, contrast and colour reproduction is every bit as good as anything that Canon makes (see MTFs on photodo for evidence). Here's an image I made at almost 1:1 macro:

If I had to buy again I would look for a USM or HSM model.

Thanks everybody. Foxbat, excellent picture and good advice. I think canon 100 is a better option.
