Just sold my 70-200 f/4L and got the 70-200 f/2.8L IS (indeed a h##L of a lens...)
The zoomring needs alot more "torque" to turn/zoom, is this "normal" and a fact of the L-ife? I recon that I've just gotta get used to it and perhaps begin some form of athletic zoomification-training? Now where's that beer-bottle and my rubber-tape...?

It's all part of Canon fitness program, the weight of the lens works on your upper arm strenght and the zoom ring works on your wrist muscles!!
I have the same lens and yes I think it was tighter than the f4 I tried in the shop, but someone that owns both lens may be better able to confirm that.

new lens' zoom/focus rings are usually tighter, they'll loosen up after use. congrats!
