Very bad-ass. Could use some minor rotation to the left to correct your horizon line.
It is also kinda warm. I think that it MIGHT be better if this was a little more cool in the WB realm. There are already so many warm colors on the right of the shot that the warm WB covers up all the greens and blues and purples on the left.

Great shot of a familiar place. Where are the people, I have never seen the walkway sans travelers!

Thanks for the compliments guys.
Alpha, I like the comment of the "little too warm". I tried out the less warm and it looks a little better.
Alan, there were tons of people. I used two .9 ND filters plus an f/11 to shoot at around 30 seconds. The people just disappear that way.

Brilliant!
I wondered how you got O'hare closed long enough to take that shot.

Nice idea. The old timers did that long exposure thing to get pictures of the Eifel Tower with no one around it.
Besides the coolness of the color and rhythm of the lights, the pic gives me a sense of claustrophobia like the ceiling is pressing down.

I was there over Memorial Day weekend and I thought the walkway lights changed colors and the neon tubes would do a "wave" on and off. So I had a real confusing time trying to figure out how you got the shot, since I thought the colors would get all mixed. But now that I think about it, the side walls don't actually shift colors IIRC, or if they do, they do very very slowly. And the neon tubes obviously cannot shift colors--they are just different colors as you move along the walkway. So yes, it is a long exposure shot. Nicely done! :D

Thanks again everyone for the comments! I think I'm going to go back and reshoot the shot though. I needed to get an exposure longer than 30 seconds in order to get rid of all the ghosting left behind by the people. For some reason I couldn't find the bulb setting on my camera at the time (I was rushed by my flight leaving). So, back to the drawing board. Going to take it again before my next trip in September.

Nice! First thing I thought of as well was is where are the people - I've never seen it that empty...good job on losing them !!

Awesome shot, and even more awesome knowing you took it with people in the frame and made them disappear!

Yeah, i'm gonna go back and redo it as i can still some people in the horizon of the picture. Gonna have to bump that f-stop up to 22 and use the bulb setting. We'll see how that goes! But thanks again for all the compliments!

Thanks for the info on getting rid of the people. I have used that technique that but have always had some ghosting which suited my shots. I suppose my exposure wasn't long enough, I didn't think you would get rid of all the people. I'll bet everyone loved having you all set up as they blew past you on their way to somewhere!
Thanks again for the great shot.

That is a super good shot. The airport should buy it and hang it in their lobby.

I knew where this was right away and immediately thought two things:
1. Hmmm... I don't remember the lights all being on at the same time
and
2. That's one long walk to get out of that damn airport! Ugh!
Great photo! Was the lens centered on the middle railway? It seems a tiny bit left of center?

I thought something similar but I was lined up dead center of the entire walkway as you can see by the lines on the floor matching up with the center of the walkway. I can't figure out why it looks off though either.

Stumbled onto your post and thought ... i know where that is ... How in the @#$% did he get rid of the people. So I read, and then I read, and kept reading. Which I normally don't do. You know what, -everybody before me has already said it. They are right on about the photo and how you captured it. And I must say -WOW- that has to be one of the coolest images I have seen in a bit. Thank you also for sharing your technique.

Let me ask, does the blown out horizon point bother anyone? Yeah, I'm my own worst critic...

Great great shot. I tried taking this very shot a month ago and it was not so good. Makes me appreciate what you have done with this location even more.
The blown out horizon point doesn't really bother me. It has that light at the end of the tunnel feel to it :-)

very artistic shot! It brings back memories of wandering through that airport to pass the time waiting for a delayed flight.
It would be cool to see a side-by-side shot of this, one w/ people and one without.
