Hey everyone!.. Ok well Im having some problems properly exposing shots that are shot into the sun.. "Obviously this is a newbie question".. Im shooting in "M" mode.. and I just go by what the camera exposure meter tells me.. "I try to keep it in the middle as much as I can"..
Anyways when Im shooting into the sun Im focusing on the model but they become a sillouette and the sky is exposed properly.. how can I change this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated and sorry for the newbie question :P

Try using whatever Canon is calling a narrow metering pattern instead of evaluative metering. Meter only what you want to be exposed properly and set your camera for that. In your situation, it will overexpose the sky, but the person will no longer be a silhouette.

and/or add some flash...
that is what we are talking about in this particular forum.
run a search on "fill-in flash"r "flash fill"
if you camera has a pop-up-flash, that will get you started.
if not, you might want to look into the purchase of a 430EX.

Fill flash would seem ideal in this situation, even the onboard flash.
Like Jim said - metering the subject would probably blow out the sky, which may or may not be what you want.
Experiment!

Shutter speed to control ambient light (sun). Aperture to control flash exposure (subject). (all this for the most part)
If the sun is bright, you will need some power to overcome it. I have found good results with a 580 ex off camera set to manual a shoot through umbrella and close to my subject.
