I've been trying to take some shots of ducks coming in to land and the AI servo seems to work okay.... But I'm having a problem with not being able to set the shutter speed, aperature or ISO when using the sports mode on my camera.

Is it possible to use the AI Servo mode in the creative modes of the camera?

I've seen some stuff about hacking the firmware of the 300D to make it do extra stuff?

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

AFAIK it's not possible, even with the hacks.

One other thing.....

Does the 350D or 20D allow for AI Servoe Mode in the creative modes?

Yes, both cameras allow you to use AI Servo in the creative modes.

I believe that AI Servo is available in the creative modes with the 300D, it's just that you don't have direct control over when it's activated--the camera decides for you which is not very reliable(someone slap me if I'm wrong). I seem to recall various tricks to fool the camera and force AI Servo mode, but they were pretty flaky and I wasn't interested. Probably my biggest complaint about the 300D now that it's hacked.

I think is something about stick a mini jack into the side and slowly pulling it out. Something like that. I'm not sure tried it awhile ago.

Im not familiar with the 300D (I have a 20D) but what I do is avoid the auto modes at all costs. If you are shooting fast moving ducks use shutter priority (Tv) and set it to an acceptable shutter speed.

I use shutter priority with AI Servo whenever I take photos of flying birds. It works excellent

Thats actually one of the reasons I upgraded to the 20D....unless your in sports mode AI servo on the 300D is virtually non-existent

Ed2Day above is correct - in the creative modes on the 300D - the camera is basically in AI Auto Focus mode which means that the 300D, if it senses movement of the subject that has been focused on, will swith to AI Servo mode and track that subject. The camera decides when rather than you deciding is the problem on the 300D. I use the Waisa hack on my 300D and set it to One Shot focusing mode so I don't have to worry about it.

Canon Digital Rebel 300D (Read this on another post and it works)

Tricking AI servo, three ways I know... (works in ANY mode)

1. Achieve focus lock on a subject and then whilst keeping the shutter half depressed and the subject centered, move the lens focus ring - camera drops into AI servo and will stay there as long as the shutter is kept half depressed. (Only works with lenses that support full time manual focusing such as Canon USM and Sigma HSM lenses)

2. Achieve focus lock on a subject and whilst keeping the shutter half depressed use the lens zoom mechanism to zoom in slightly. Camera drops into AI servo and will stay there as long as the shutter is kept half depressed. Obviously only works with zoom lenses and doesn't work with parfocal lenses.

3. Achieve focus lock on a relatively close subject and then whilst keeping the subject centered, and the shutter button half depressed take a step forward. Camera drops into AI servo and will stay there as long as the shutter is kept half depressed.

All three methods take a little practice and some methods work better with some lenses than others. Fairly easy to do though.

it's true that the new undutchable firmware enables AI SERVo but u cannot shoot, but it's also true that u can use the left arrow to put the camera in manual focus, allowing u to fully press the shutter button. now if u are fast enough to press left and the shutter button AT THE SAME TIME, u can actually put the camera in AI SERVO and take a picture.
