I want to make my DV cam footage look like 35mm film.

Anyone know of any decent, *free* tools I can use to accomplish this and where I can download them?

Thanks...

Only way to get a 35mm feel is to buy a 35mm video camera... or a 5dmkii. If you want grain, there are plenty of plugins for that, if you want DOF, you're $#!% out of luck. If you want to edit video for free, check the doom9 forum for a list of links to a dozen free programs for windows, osx, and linux.

Can anyone recommend good programs for grain or a slightly battered look then?

Check the doom9 forums for avisynth plugins that do just that. If you don't know how to use avisynth, avisynth.org has a good user manual.

yeah every comercial video editing software (vegas, premiere) has a plugin for grain and noise, to make it look more 35mm, i would suggest changing the aspect ratio to 2.35:1

not changing it, but cutting off the top and bottom of that 16:9 to make it 2.35:1, makes it look 10 times more film-y

dont forget to change your composition habbits to compensate for cutting off some picture!
