Newby here. I bought a SanDisk Ultra II 512mb type 1 memory card for a D-Rebel XT that I should be getting on Monday. Is this one the right kind for this camera? thanks.

If you're going to be shooting in the JPG format, that'll be more than adequate although I'd recommend two cards (minimum) so you can swap between the two cards. However, if you're going to be shooting RAW, you may find that 512 MB won't hold as many image files as you would like. You'll probably want to get a couple of 512 MB or 1GB cards for RAW.

Yeah, I agree. After about a month of shooting with 2 512mb cards, I'm finding them very limiting. I'm about to purchase two 1GB cards with plans of getting one or two more 2GB cards later.

I get about 50 shots per 512mb card on my 20D. :(

I use a 1 GB card and two 384 MB cards with my 20D and would prefer two or three 1 GB cards. However, I get 35+ raw exposures on one 384 card, and for years I got by just fine using 36-exposure rolls of film.

The other part of your question is did you get the right card from the standpoint of the time it takes your camera to write to the card? I'd say you did get the right one, based on the test results here for your camera:

I have a Kingston and two OLD San Disk Ultras, and they are dogs when I shoot dual jpeg/raw exposures. Your card is among the best available for write speed.

Thanks guys. I got my camera a few days earlier than I expected and quickly started to play with it. I am very happy with the performance of my CF card. Thanks again.

How much did you pay for it and where from?
I was able to buy 4 New Sandisk Ulta II 1GB CF cards on Ebay for $70.00 each with a total of $11.00 shipping. ($291.00Total for 4GB)
You have to research.
