OMG!!! I did it today! I went to ritz, and got me a 20d!!!! I also bought the 100mm f/2.8 macro lens. It's AMAZING! Almost got the tamron 17-35, or the canon 70-200mm f/4L, but I saw this 100mm macro and I was hooked. Screw zoom, primes rule! Also got the uv filter of course, a 1gb lexar card, a spiffy back pack case and a service plan of course. So now I can throw my 20d in a pond if I wish, and they'll still repair it as long as I tell them it was an accident. Pretty sweet service plan if you ask me! All in all set me back about $2600.00. More than I wanted to spend, but I am overwhelmingly happy with it all!
Anyway, I took a few quick pics with it today. I was just taking some snap shots, getting a feel for the camera. So, nothing spectacular, but wow is this better than my Kodak EasyShare!!! haha!!!

Sorry they're so small. Resizing below 100kb is such a pain!

OK, so dont get a heart attack now as you have plenty of stuff to do with ur 20D.
Now next step, Bookmark canon/sigma/tamron websites displaying lenses & go over them again & again till you start seeing them without watching them ;) People here will difinately help you ;)
Congrats on ur purchase, you wont be disappointed.

Congrats on the new camera. Only took you a month, and 850+ posts. Hehe, I'm sure you've learnt a lot about the 20D before even using it. :p

First post, and I am a complete noob...just wondering if those shots are stock right out of the camera or were there some parameter setting changes required, like upping the colors, sharpness changing the contrast in the camera or was this with post processing in Adbobe before you posted them?

I feel your joy!! My wife and I just got our 20D 3 days ago!! Just in time for our trip to the Meditaranean... Flying to Spain this afternoon, and looking forward to coming back with pics of a lifetime!! We went with the EF17-85mm kit, with 2 Lexar 2 Gb 80x cards. I'm really looking forward to the Macro world soon after our return.

Thanks everyone! I love this camera so much, and I'm so happy with my lens choice!
Wazza.... oh yea! Did a LOT of research before buying the camera. :-) haha, I knew how to opperate the thing before I even bought it.... :-) Love this thing!
And Suryad, nothing was edited on these shots. The only thing I did was crop the bench shot, and the bird shot of course. The bird is a 100% crop I believe. 100mm def isn't enough to fill a frame with a small bird 30ft away. But the two flowers weren't cropped at all. All fresh from the camrea! :-)
Omg though, never buying lenses from ritzcamera again though!!! $600.00 for my macro lens!!!!!!!! I was like, O_O!!! It's over a 100 bucks cheaper on bhphoto.com, but they offer 15 free prints, rewards cards, free photography classes and all that bunch so I figured it was worth it in the long run. And ouch, the $400.00 dollar 2yr service plan........ hope I don't regret that! Coulda bought the 17-35mm Tamron along with my 100mm macro for all that extra cost! Oh well though, I can drop my 20D off a building now and not have to worry about it. Peace of mind I guess is worth 400 huh? :-)

Have fun on the cruise. One of my best customers from Ford is flying to Spain this afternoon for a Med Cruise.
Enjoy the 20D!!!!!!!!

Got mine today too! Prefer it over my 350D. The rear control dial is great. Now learning the controls. Cheers...

congrats! I've only had my 300D for a week or so now, and am loving getting to know it (after 10 years with my EOS 1000FN, and a couple of point and shoot digicams).

Whats this - Canon super sales week?? I think I'll buy their shares... remember, for every Canon sold there's at least 4 other brands of DSLR staying on the shelf..

Suryad. Here is a shot straight out of camera on 05-05-09, converted in PSCS from Camera RAW. Color you see is from camera. No saturation adjustment. No levels adjustment. No exposure adjustment. Only sharpening for jpg web output.

I try and do 75% effort getting image right, then 20% of adjustments in Camera RAW for contrast, exposure, etc., because I do not like consuming time editing in PhotoShop. I do not want more than a small % time fixing. Sometimes it's best to throw the image out.
I have trouble getting satisfying results with .jpg parameters in camera. RAW will change your photographic outlook, just have to get the time spent in workflow under control.

And no grip? That's a cardinal sin my son.
Congrats.

Considering the state of the 20D grip, I'd say it was a no-brainer. Why get something you can be virtually assured you'll be sending back for service?

I actually thought about the grip, but being a 16 year old earning 7 bucks an hour my budget needs to stay as low as possible. :) Plus, that thing looks ugly on the 20d in my opinion....... I'd rather get another CF and a batterie. :)
Anyway, I went out shooting today using full manual and oh man is it hard! I kept forgetting to set sertain things. Like, for a while I was shooting outside where it was very bright and sunny using ISO 1600... o_o.... I felt like such an idiot when I realized it! I've never used anything but automatic settings until today, and I got a few decent shots. So, I think I'm off to a good start..... I'll post one of the pics I got today. I'll be posting the others in the nature section.

I love the Grip!!!
It fullfills the camera, It makes it really feel good in your hands!
Have you tried it?
RbrtPtikLeoSeny
13th of May 2005 (Fri), 22:17
Hmmm.... no..... never actually tried it. Guess that's sort of stupid of me to dismiss it before actually holding it in my hands and taking it for a spin huh? Sure would make portrait shooting easier I guess! I was having a harder time keeping the camera steady today shooting portrait. The BG-E2 grip is flimsy though isn't it? That's what I've heard. That it's made of like, cheap feeling plastic. That it doesn't feel as solid as the 20D camera therefore greatly ofsets the feel of the unit.
DocFrankenstein
13th of May 2005 (Fri), 22:23
It's not as solid... but when you're shooting portraits of some aquaintance of yours... you want to concentrate on the subject not on the pain in your wrist you get after 10 mins of holding it vertical.

Yeah, very true. I'll look into it then. Seems like it'd be a good investment, but it'll be a while before I can buy anything new anyway.
