I wasn't familiar with Jewel but it turns out she is of a style that appeals to me. After I got out of the Air Force (before many of you were born!) I wound up in San Francisco near the end of the Hippie Era and used to spend my evenings nursing a single coffee or beer in a Coffee House listening to music of this genre quite often. I was fortunate that I lived within ten blocks of one such place as I couldn't afford a car so I walked.

Jewel does have a bit of a skin issue and I only correct notably horrible things (and annotate when I do) as I am a documentarian (like a photojournalist) ... so, I hope the "harsh lighting effects" don't offend anyone!

Also, the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS used for this concert has since been shipped back to Canon for focus issues and I am using my backup, which also isn't as sharp as I would like at wide open but it is my studio lens usually used at f/14 and smaller.

#2 In the hippie tradition, not much makeup:

#3 Not a lot of movement ... she kinda stood in that one spot the whole three songs with pretty much the same lighting.

#4 One of the softer shots:

#5 Compare this image with the 70-200mm to the next one with the 300mm:

5 looks really soft, like the AF picked on the wrong item.

6 is the best, nice shot.

Yes it is ... just got the call ... $185 to repair it! :-) Did you read the comments on the images? I couldn't tell when shooting that it had gone bad.

Nice set, Dwight. She's got a decent style of music...

Sucks to hear about your lens, but, hopefully it'll come back workin' like a charm. :)

Nice shots...

My normal mode of shooting casino concerts is 70-200mm f/2.8L IS on one 1DMIII and 300mm f/2.8L IS on my second 1DMIII, all handheld. The lighting is exceptional for most things if our own LD runs it, as in this case. If I use the 400mm f/2.8L IS I put it on a tripod although I have used it with an assistant who used a monopod. The EXIF is intact so you can see the shutterspeed.

The lens is NBD ... I have another one. If I have to send back any of my two or three other most used lenses of which I only have one I'd just buy a second. I have way more photography money than brains and I don't have to justify anything. :-) And thanks!

Ya', it came out very nicely! Thanks!

Nice series, her minor skin problems are more than offset by her great voice!

I like #3 best.
On #6 I'm bugged because the feet are behind the monitor (or is it the stage?).

Looks like the 70-200 needs some major repair :(
