Hi Mike,
After you get that figured out I have an off subject question.
How do you like your EF-S 17-85 IS. I am considering that lens as a future purchase.

keep trying - you'll get it.
One thing, I noticed you shot at ISO 400, in my experience I try my damnest to keep it at 100.
But what do I know, I haven't even seen the pic

I like the 17-85mm alot. But take that with a grain of salt because I am very new and the only other lenses I can compare it to are the cheapie's EF 28-80mm and 80-200mm. In comparison, the 17-85mm is far better yet I would guess that most any other lens is better than those. I opted for this lens with the idea that it is a good walk around lens covering a decent focal range considering the 1.6 crop factor. Plus, it fit my budget. Also, it's light but build quality seems very good. I do alot of hiking and am conscious of weight. So, can anyone please give me a hand with re-sizing these images so they fit well. I can't seem to size them like everybody else. I'm working with PS Elements 2.0. Thanks in advance, for your assistance and patience.

Thanks for the info. My plan is to replace my Tamron with the Canon 70-300 DO IS, then add the 17-85 IS to cover the wide side. I figure the IS should help me shoot at slower shutter speeds so I can keep it at f/8 or tighter to keep the photos sharp. If I amlooking for portrait bokeh then I can use my 50mm.
Now about posting. For the most part I use Picasa2. It is free and esier than Elements to use.

Finally got it. I just can't seem to size my images properly to upload to the forum. Seems as if the image could be bigger, more detail. Any advice on both photo and sizing would be appreciated.

I'm a little late, I see you got it done. I'm not very good at portraits but I think this one is overexposed on the right side. It is somewhat distracting.
Keep shooting and posting, you'll get better. After all the film is cheap. ;-)

Like I commented earlier, if you knocked the ISO down to 100 you would not have as much noise (grain) in the hair.
Also, try to keep the subject's face evenly lit - It's a bit too bright on the one side.
I will say this though - You are starting out with great gear! Stay at it, you'll get better with every click.
I started out with a Mustek 1 megapixel but shhhhh, don't tell anyone.

Mike it also depends on what mood your trying to set or what you want people to feel when looking at the pic. Example...She's not smiling...Could be trying to set the tone for loneliness or sadness, in that case I would change the lighting to reflect that. To me happy is bright and cheerie and sad and or somber or deep in thought is daeker or less lighting, but thats just me.

I agree, Keiffer, but the laws of nature in Alaska do not. I'd have to crawl into a cave to find some mood lighting this time of year...and still. Nah, I get your drift...and I agree. B&W might do something to complement the mood a bit I suppose? P.S. I can tell you what kind of mood the subject is trying to reflect....it's "get that camera out of my face already before I castrate you!"
