Hello people,

Before I'll ask right away I will introduce myself briefly and tell how I came to this question.

About half a year ago, my school offered internships. I chose being an intern at a freelance photographer I've known for about a year before that internship. I really enjoyed the week I was an intern at his place, and learned quite a bit already, even though it mostly was carrying his bag and such
After the week, I chose my way to become a photographer too. Next year I will be starting at a school which offers photography. So I started saving up and such, and now, within a week or 2 I will be owning a Canon EOS 50D (wewt!). Frankly, that is only a body though. Good side is, I know 2 photographers, one being the one I was an intern at.
The photographer at who I was an intern offered me to borrow lenses from him, which was amazing to me! (I get to borrow the 200mm 2.8L Prime :3)

Now, somewhere mid September, there will be an event nearby my place, which attracts quite some people. I really feel like photographing there, but I doubt they'll let me without their permission. So I am considering emailing them and asking their permission, and maybe allowance to get up to the VIP decks there (they do sell tickets for that anyway). Ofcourse, being still an amature, every practice is good to get, and I'd let them use my pictures if they'd like any.

Now is the question. What would you, P.O.T.N'ers do in this situation? Email them, thinking to grab pretty much every chance or leaving it, and maybe do it, for example, next year?

(PS. I do get some practice before the event though. Also a concert, indoors, from someone I know).

Kind regards and thanks already!

What type of event are you speaking of? Is it possible for you to show up with your gear and shoot without permission? If it's an event where tickets are sold, there may be restrictions.

I think you're on the right track. Call the event and simply ask about bringing camera gear and shooting the event for private use only. Certainly worth a try. I wouldn't however tell them you'd give them your pics FIRST!!!

It is a musical event, lots of techno and trance, with the added laser shows and such. I am not sure about showing up with gear without permission, and there are tickets being sold (regular €25,- and VIP - allows one to places - €40,-).
I think I'll send them an email asking for private use.

Thanks for your reply ^^
