Soccer/Football headers seem so difficult to catch in perfect time and produce such crazy reactions on the face, I thought it might be fun to see your best.
I'll start with a few of my favorites.

Eyes should be open. They're just heading the ball for no real reason.
Heading the ball hurts if you just head it.
To really use your head effectively, you have to punch it. If you use the top of your head it hurts a lot. Use the forehead and punch it.

You are correct, bend at the waist and snap your head through the ball. If the ball hits you = PAIN. If you hit the ball, properly, it will not hurt.
You also have control over the ball when YOU head the ball and control the direction.
Good color, they look pretty sharp. They are young and learning the game. Not a criticism of their skill level in any way.

Even at the pro level they sometimes head with their eyes closed :)

and of course the other way is to just balance the ball on your head as you move up the field... :)

From last Saturday night. It needs a little more PP to clean it up:

Shame about the empty seats behind. I don't get many opportunities to post photos due to the restrictions from the Football League/Premier League.
Even in the UEFA Europa League they close their eyes!

No one keeps their eyes open while the ball's on their head. It's just a reflex. Expecting otherwise is slightly unfortunate.
Off to do my first game of the FA Cup season tomorrow so fingers crossed I get some use-able stuff.
I'm sure I've posted this before.

Heres a couple I took at the last game I went to. I am really chuffed with the first one, the second one is the aftermath of two players going for the ball, it looks like they are dancing in formation ;)

Sundowner: Whenever you remove the ball from a soccer collision, it always looks like they're spaz-dancing to me too :)

Not sure if this one 'counts', but it's been picked for my local paper on Thursday!
Denzel (horizontal one) scored this one, and had a similar one go wide 4 mins earlier

Mike, you've got a shot from behind the goal line and all six player's faces. And it's a goal. My hat's off

Thanks! I started level with the penalty box on the side lines, but we (the red team Shoreham FC) were peppering the goal, so thought is worth a move. This was after 12 mins!

This shot is spectacular. Capturing that one nano-second between goal/no-goal. Nice capture.

Mike, not to come in like a cynic, or belittle you, but I would be wary of displaying images that have been (or are being) published until they've given you the cash.
If I were an unscrupulous picture editor i'd be thinking "hmmm, I can crop the watermark out of the bottom and use it for free since I found it on't interweb!"
I've been stung before, and I'd hate to see it happen to anyone on here.
Just my 2p!
James.

A greater risk you run is if they paid you for the photo, depending on what sort of usage terms you have in place with them, you may no longer be allowed to post your own photo as they may now own the rights. While they will probably not sue you for your house and all worldly possessions, it may stop them from ever using you again.

Not at all. The usage rights are single use only, for publication on xxxxxx date (in this case 20/08/09). Image copyright remains with myself. No additional restrictions on usage or publication on, after or before that date by me or others (first question I asked when they printed them last year).
The image quality posted here and on my site isn't actually good enough for print use, but OK for the web (1500x1000@72dpi). There's a share link to post it elsewhere, mainly for the club site. Do you think that's too big? The max size you can embed using the links is about 1024 wide, so nobody has access to the original image size.
I'm loathe to move the watermark too much otherwise you won't be able to see the image (which defeats the object).
The image itself is of a Sussex County League 1 side playing a Combine County League 1 side in the Extra Preliminary round of the FA Cup, so has a 'limited' audience as far as printed matter goes. The local papers for the opposing side were there aswell, but obviusly shooting for the oppositions interests, so us lot putting one past them isn't what their readers want to see I guess.
But all your points are of course valid and welcomed. So I'm trying to be sensible in controlling the image itself without wrecking it in other ways.
I'm keen to here of other things I can do though if you think I've missed something. Hopefully I've got most bases covered though. Best to PM me though, we seemed to have hijacked this thread enough though.
