I took the mountain pictures from a couple miles away from where I work. I just pulled over when I found a decent view from Hwy 26 and rested the camera on my truck, which you can see part of in photo 1. Composition wasn't top priority in these shots. Basically just getting used to the lens. Mt. Hood is about 50 miles by car from where I'm standing. It's east of Portland and stands a little over 11,000 ft. high. That fifth wheel sitting out there really does something for the view, heh?? :) Guess they're trying to keep property taxes to a minimum.

Very nice, you are going to love that lense. I find it to be invaluable in many situations.

Thanks for the kind words all. Dan, you're going to love the lense. Good choice. It feels right at home on the XT.

I hope to go on a shoot this weekend if the rain decides to let up. The shots I've posted so far are more like 'desperation' shots just to try out the 4L. I'm learning more from this forum that good shots rarely come easily.

AJ, thanks for letting me know about nwphotographers.net. Sounds fun!

the last two shots of the flowers (and insect in one )are especially beautiful

the tree in front of that beautiful mountain ( with the cloud floating by) spoils it a bit. could it be photographed from another angle ?
just saying , I know you say composition is not the main thing here as you are testing the lens

there is an awful lot going on in the field with the trailer ( things seem to be dumped around) http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gifhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I understand what you were doing though, no worries

I love the daisy shot
and the other flower shot

Thanks Marie for your comments. Yes, there are numerous places further up the road to take great pictures of the mountain but I had just gotten off of work and had to hurry home so I picked the first opening I could find where the mountain was at least visible. I agree the tree, bush and especially the junk makes this a terrible place to photograph the mountain from. In hindsight, I probably should have been more patient and not posted the mountain shot. It was, as you say, a lens test. And I also realize I have the flower shots in the wrong section.

Thanks for the nice comments on the daisy and other flower shot. I took those on my lunch hour a small distance from my office. Again I was hurried but I could not wait until the weekend to take at least something with the lens especially since the sun was out and the F4L performs its best in good light.

One thing I've learned is that this lens is best photographing larger objects than insects.
I will be more selective in the future about images I post. Thanks for going easy on me here! I'm learning a lot from this forum.
