Hi everyone!
My name is Dawn, and I'm relatively new to this whole photography thing.
I've got a rebel XS with a Tamrom 75-300mm f/4-5.6, as well as the 18-55mm that the camera came with.
I've mostly been shooting horses, so I figured I'd make my first post here.
Any feedback would be appreciated!

Hi Dawn
#1 for me is the best shot, I like the framing or composition.
#2 is my second pick. But I'm not keen on #4, & #5, they seem abit haphazard.
I must confess to finding horses hard to get just right, as I've just been trying to get some nice shots of my wifes horse.
Keep at it.
PS welcome to POTN :)

I like #1 a lot. I'm a huge fan of B&W. The blown whites bother me, however. Not so much the area around the eye, but the big blown areas in the background on the right. I find it very distracting. My eye instantly goes there instead of to the subject. I'd do some burning in that area to tone it down. The rest of the shots don't do much for me.

Thanks for your feedback guys! I really appreciate it.
I tend to not know when to stop when I'm in PS. Gotta figure that out!

Welcome Dawn! Yes, there's a bunch of us that like (and shoot) horses here!
I like the look of #1 .. and I'd really like #4 if only the fly mask had been off. Keep shooting & learning & sharing! (like we all do.. LOL)

#1 for me here too. Blown whites don't bother me a bit on it, in fact I think they contribute to the overall 'look' of the image. Nice series :-)

IMHO I feel you have cropped extra in #1, if you have; or the composition was a little too tight.. more of the face would have been better.

I agree that #1 is a nice shot. The blown out part to the right didn't really bother me until someone pointed it out. I have three horses and work from home so I try to shoot some pictures of them once or twice a week. They don't pose very well. I find most of the pictures they have their head to the ground. Another thing is that those that are not horse people don't see the same thing as horse people. With other subjects, I look at composition first; with horses, I find myself reading the horse first. Keep at it.
