Is there any difference in the focus ability under low light conditions of the 300D and 20D? I was using a Tamron 28-75 2.8 Di and a Canon 50 1.8. My flash was Canon 420 EX with a softbox attached. I was disappointed in poorly focused pictures. I used 400 ISO and was afraid to go any higher due to increased noise level. I shot in raw and jpeg and got poor results in both. The lenses had to be pretty wide open in the low light and so the DOF was shallow. What am I missing? Would the 20D do any better?

Thank you

Barry

On the front of your 420EX, there is an autofocus assist beam emitter. If you put the softbox in front of that, it might block it, so you would not be getting the proper effect from the assist. I use a softbox that does not block the emitter.
