Hi everyone -

I just got my 50D today, refurb from Adorama and I'm eager for some critique!

It struck me that maybe I'm not advanced enough to notice if something subtle is wrong with the camera, so here are some images. I found that I had to adjust the white balance for all of them even though the camera was set to "daylight" (I don't know how to manually set the white balance on my own just yet).

Thanks for looking!

P.S. I shoot in AV mode. They were taken with my 28-135mm canon and 60mm canon.

I couldn't help you on the WB issue, but perhaps it was just the time of day and harsh sunlight?

Picture 3 is pretty neat, but I'm not exactly sure if the actual eye is in focus or not? Nice shot nonetheless.

The other ones, all I can say is : too bad you seem to have gotten their "backs"

Strongly recommend that you read up on the Custom WB, get a gray card from a crafts store (such as Michael's), and try using a Custom WB.

I think your first 2 shots have some composition issues -
1) Don't have just the hands of the rider in the scene. Either get the rider in completely or leave her out completely. 2) Get the horse and rider coming into the scene, not leaving!

For the last shot in the series, comment (2) also applies here.

Thanks for the replies!

I stole 2 coffee filters from work and tried out custom white balance as a quick fix and was very pleased with the results. Next time I'm out at the barn I'm definitely going to give it a shot.

Working on shot composition still for sure! I don't even realize I get so many shots of people on horses leaving instead of going, lol.

Thanks again!
