Thanks for the kind words everyone.... I love the focal length of this lens.. and the sharpness.. although it has a slight back focus.. I think I'll end up exchanging it just to be on the safe side... I cannot stand dealing with focusing issues on cameras and lenses... lol..

These are great shots - I only wish I could get a good shot of my 2 kids together. That last photo is priceless!

I know what you mean... THis pose works well for getting them together... Give it a try.. seems to work everytime for me...

Older child squats down low.. and the little one hugs from behind. :)

All of them are great!! Love the last one Kristy!

Have you tried doing a micro calibration for the lens? That might help with the back focusing issue...I was just reading about this somewhere and that was listed as a quick and easy adjustment....Lensrental.com posted the article.

the first two are my favorite, but they are all nice!

The 724IS is a great lens. I sold mine to my son and bought a 70-200 f/2.8 IS. Given good light I would rather take the f/4 IS because of its weight.

Kristy, given you are shooting with a 5DII have you tried to micro-adjust?

THank you all for the kind words.. :) Just having some fun with the camera.. we were on a camping trip near the Grand Canyon, so I took advantage of playing time. :)

@Crissa and Jen.. The micro adjustment is a great feature, although in reality is not very great with zoom lenses. If you adjust at the short end then the long end is off.. and vice-versa... so you have to estimate somewhere in the middle and be happy that you are close... lol..

Since it was under the 15 day purchase window.. I'll just save myself the headache and exchange it for a different copy and keep my fingers crossed.

The lens is amazingly sharp.. just want the focus to land on target at least 90% of the time.. ;)
