hello, I'm the new one...

I've a question for you, all specialists!

I work with a D60, 16/35 mm, 28/70 mm, and 70/200 mm.
Now, I need a macro lens to take pictures of goldsmith'art's hallmarks and even duplicate "old" argentic slides.

I hesitate....

100 mm macro or 180 mm macro ?

The price is not the fist criterion of choice....

Thank you for your answers

Frenchie,
i'm like you abd don't mind spending money if the rewards are just.
in this case though, i have found the 100mm to be a very good lens.

you might find the answer here............

Frenchy- go with the 100mm. I do a lot of macro photography (intraoral and small dental items) . Ive had many macro systems over the years but the Canon 100 macro really shines. The MT24 flash system is incredible for my type of work. check it out also!

Here is a link to a website of someone who has first hand experience with the Canon 100/2.8 lens:

I think this is an interesting site for numerous reasons.

The reference about the macro lens is under
>Technical Information >Equipment Used

He also recommends an attachment which will allow you to use your regular flash for macro photography:
"This is the "Combo2" flash bracket made by Wimberley. It attaches via the 'Arca-Swiss' mechanism, and allows considerable flexibility in attaching a flash to the camera, tripod, etc. I use this for getting the flash closer to the subject in Macro work."

I'm a jewelry rep and also a product photographer. The 100mm 2.8 macro is simply the best overall lens for this purpose. The level of detail and color with the lens is above reproach. Worth every penny of it's price.......
