So I'm TOTALLY not trying to come off like I'm some pro...

But a friend has seen some recent pictures and my new excitement for photography and wants me to take some pictures of her and her son.

Totally for free… just trying to do them a favor cause I would want someone to do it for me type-a thing...

They wanna do like a grungy mom/son skateboard type scene…
Maybe not so much action - maybe a little - but more posey type mom/son bonding type moments...

Anyone wanna throw out some ideas for like a location idea or interesting poses that maybe you've done with a similar shoot…
Picture examples would be great...

There is only so much room in my brain for stuff and creativity didn't get a very big chunk...

Thanks in advance

I think you should get a longer lens, like a 70-200mm f/4 L which is around 500 (used) on the for sale forums and Fred Miranda.

You say your friend has seen some recent pictures...your pictures or some she wants you to emulate? Have her, and her son, tell you in more detail what they want. Your idea of grunge may not be the same as theirs (or his maybe different from hers). Locations ... totally winging it here ... concrete steps with metal hand rail; back of local business (with permission); outdoor museums... Here is what I consider a 'grunge-look' setting. It is the back door, so to speak, of the local hospital. Hope some of this is helpful. Would like to see some of your results.

fryefoto - thank - yeah thats what she's lookin for - like back ally type stuff - I'm nervous about lighting and action shots we may wanna try.... I told her - I'm the camera - you're the ideas and subject... Tell me what YOU want. Maybe I'll drive around this weekend and just scope out some places that kinda look like a cool mom would take her kid to watch him learn skateboarding and try her hand at it too... no back dumpster ally stuff... but still a fun location that you could skateboard in... i guess the perfect location is key and then everything else will fall into place... Waiting for a good location is probably key!

How about a local skate park? You could probabaly also check with some locallly owned skateboard shops and see if they'd allow you to shoot in there...it's always worth asking :)
