Is there really that much difference in the CP's to justify the price being asked for some of the filters.

Here is one I was considering buying. Not that expensive. Or will I notice better quality with a better filter?

Thanks

I have that filter, and I thought it was okay till I started reading these forums :) I bought it locally and it was hardly cheap, and was also the best the shop had (just as I bought it I heard another salesperson tell a customer that they "didn't import any good filters into New Zealand"!).

The downside of this filter is that it's not multi-coated. Considering that the most effective angle of a polariser is at 90 degrees to the sun, it makes sense to get a filter that doesn't encourage flare. A hood's a good idea of course.

If I were you I'd go for something that is multi-coated. If you're going to use it on a wide-angle then you might consider one with a narrow rim - such as the "Pro 1" at the top of the Hoya range, but it's probably not necessary to go to that expense. I've bought my "Pro 1" filters through eBay and they were a lot cheaper, even with airmail postage added.

Polarisers can actually creat blur on tele lenses if not made well enough.I've had personal experience with this problem.
The Hoya SHOULD be good enough though

Any suggestions on a good CP Filter? I'm willing to pay a reasonable price. (100 + or - a few dollars) Thanks for the replies.

Here is a great source for threaded type filters by Hoya. Prices are great, shipping is cheap and I highly recommend him as I have purchased many filters from him.

Here is a link to the HMC HOYA CPol:

Nothing, trust me! I have purchased nearly a dozen filters from him and all are perfect. New, no issues whatsoever.

I have purchased HOYA Coated, HMC and regular in 58mm, 67mm and 77mm. Circular Pol, UV, ND4, ND8 and RM72 (IR). All great, new and warranted. I have also purchased step rings and some other assorted accessories.

He is a small, independent retailer with great prices. He ships fast and cheap, no fluff with him.
