Yes, it is a super lens. Don't get caught up in all the front/back focus hype about this lens. Just go out and shoot real photos with it...and if you like what you get, don't look back.

You lost a great stealthy backup camera, but you're gaining a very good lens. I'm sure you'll love it!

Dan, there are some reviews out there on the Internet that indicated during their testing that the 70-200 f4L did not perform well on DSLR's, but performed perfectly on film cameras. The alleged problem is, in layman's terms (since that'w what I am!), is that during AF the lens focused slightly in back of the point that they focused on in the viewfinder, thereby placing the subject out of focus in the image. The reviewer did not recommend the lens for DSLR's as a result.

For all I know the guy just might have had a bad copy. But most folks who have them rave about them. Besides, I suppose a problem like that could happen with ANY lens. This is my recollection of the issue.

I have not noticed any problem with my copy.

Thaks for the reply....I see a lot of great pictures from this lense and that is why I chose it....I think to be complete I need the 70-200mmf/4, Tamron 28-75, Kit lense and the 1.4 extension...maybe the 50mm 1.4 also

What is the best Canon lense 70mm-200mm f4.0 or 70mmx300mm f4.5, what is the average price for each? I just bought a Canon 20D with 18mm-55mm and I want to buy one more lense.

I have a question, do I buy a 75-300mm w/image stablilizer or put out 2.5 times the money for a 70-300mm?:o

Congrats Dan. I really think you will like that lens. If you are worried about low light with it, just pick up a flash, for indoor shots.

Instead of the Tamron look at the canon EF 24-85 f/3.5-4.5. It gives you a little more on the wide side and still compliments the focal length of the 70-200. Additionally, it uses the same 67mm filters as the 70-200. I absolutely love the combination of the two and the 50 f/1.8
