Hey guys,

I had a press pass for the harlem globetrotters game at the manchester evening news arena tonight, first time out with my 85mm F1.8 and first time shooting with such a huge huge crowd behind me (in fact first time shooting in a proper arena). Estimated gate of 10,000 people :)

here's the shots, AV mode iso1600 EOS-20D, getting around 1/700th most of the time :)

There are about 25 more HERE (http://twilight-photography.co.uk/?content=gallery.php&dir=/Canon_EOS-20D/Sports/Basketball/Harlem_Globetrotters)

Had a lot of fun shooting this, hope I can do it again, sure beats dungeon gyms,

Opinions and thoughts would be nice :)

Cheers

Wow, That's a nice lens (and a great photographer obviously!) excellent pics. I especially like the definition in #2.

Great exposure, great backgorunds, great action. The only complaint I have is the horizions in a few of the images seem tilted, Im having to look at them with my head tilted.

yea after my worries about CA i had with this lens on my first day (made a thread in the Ef mount section) i realised it wasn't real world circumstances, and tonight has shown me exactly where my money has gone, fantastic bit of glass for £275 (plus £18 for the lens hood....£18 for a bit of plastic!?! ridiculous :P)

anyone thinking of shooting basketball, grab an 85 F1.8 USM, sooo much better than the nifty fifty for this game :)

Thanks again,

Tom

They are some seriously nice shots! I want an 85 now!!

Glad to see your lens problems got sorted out plus you can now say goodbye to your back focusing problems you had with the nifty fifty :)

All in all it seemed to work out really well considering it was Friday 13th :D
