WOW! Looks like you'd get a wet butt rowing that one around.  By the looks of the alge on it I don't think anyone has been near it in a very long time, yet it seems to be tie off nice and proper. Very strange. But a very nice photo Marie. :) :)

Very nice! Neat how you made something so simple as an old boat into an image that makes one want to know how it got there, why it's there, and how long it's been there, and what happened to whomever left it there, among other things. Excellent exposure and composition--that you showed the rope tied off makes the photo, IMO.

You often make something of nothing. I agree with guitarman3, the rope really helps this shot. Great work.

thank you all very much for the nice comments.
I appreciate them as I took two shots and one was without the rope, and one with , so I am glad the rope was mentioned and that I had posted that one
the other shot had the boat in closer to the camera.
loved how the boat just lay there gently bobbing (a bit sadly)

I wondered was it flooded because of the past heavy rain .
or is it leaking , and is the rope the only thing holding it afloat and the owner hopes to repair the boat in better weather coming, hopefully

the mold/moss is creeping up the edges too
(old age, it comes to us all)http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif
(as was noticed)http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

the rope is a sign that someone has high hopes

the mountains of mourne are on one side of the water and the cooley mountains are on the other .
there is a lovely village and ruined castle just around. very closeby

I wonder is the grand cooley dam named after these mountains ?

my brother was on a day trip there with a large group of people ( in a coach )
and we drove there without him knowing it
I was walking along and met his group (saw a few tour coaches and asked around) I was delighted to find the right group
they said he had just gone into the village, so while I was waiting I took this shot
he got a real surprise when he saw me and had just bought me a bar of chocolate (to give me next time he came here on his visits)
this place is more up north and a long way from where we live, him too
(not a long way by american standards though)

thanks again Sandy , Togs , Sandi, Mr Clark , Pitbull, Dennis and Ben

Nice shot. I'm sure the owner rather it looks like that nicely tied up than out in the middle of the lake while on a fishing trip.

You've captured a really nice shot. The pattern of the hull and the way it's accentuated by the shadows really set it off, IMHO.
