I would like to buy a printer for printing my photos. I an relitively new at photography but still want something that works good. Is the price for i9900 worth it for the extra ink colors or is something with 6 inks works well.

I have the i9900, and the print quality is excellent. I have an i950, too, and it uses the 6 cartridges, and works very well, too. There is a perceptible, but not significant difference between them.
The cost of consumables (ink) is pretty high, but none of them are cheap. The major complaint about the Canon printers is print durability. They will start to fade sooner than other prints from an Epson 2200, for example. I tend to think this argument is a bit of a red herring, though, because either way, we're talking years and not months.

I don't think htere is a printer available that will print at the sizes the i9900 prints for much less if any.. ink cartridges aside.
If you want to print as lage as 13"x19" then the i9900 is a super printer choice.
If you'll never print larger than letter size,. the i960 or new Pixma printers will cost a lot less.

Man I love my epson picture mate. Puts out real nice 4X6s. Great for printing copious amounts of snapshots. I am getting many more prints from the ink then the manufaturers specs. Cost is nice too. might just be a great newbie printer.
Just got a epson r800 for 5X7 and 8X10. I love this thing! The way the inks permiate premimum matte paper is just killer. The clear coat it lays down on Glossy is very nice. Great ICC controls and color management ability. Firewire hook up. This printer is pretty damn fast. 8 inks cartdriges, including the glossy coating. Paper roll hook ups. AND can print on printable CD/DVDs
I have been using a epson cx6400 and cx5400 for prints larger than the 4x6 size. The results were pretty poor until I started slecting matte paper in the print sequence for BOTH Glossy and Matte. Then they were nice. I find the scanner of these all in ones to be quite satisfactory, to me, for image input for PSCS work. SO, if you are really not to picky and need a scanner too....
I have seen results of the canons, Very Sweet. I like epsons photo fastness inks to be a plus as Picts in my family are generally not well cared for.
Just have no room for a larger format printer. I just get prints made of anything larger, which is real rare.

What's going to be your print sizes? If you'd have no reason to print bigger than letter size, look at those printers. They are at least $200 than the 13" wide printers.

OK I am leaning towards either the i9900 or the r800 I like the one for the larger prints dont know if Ill use it now and I like the one for the cd printing might use it more. Can you give some opions between these 2.

You probably want to consider the R1800 instead of the R800. It's a brand new printer that's better than the R800. Now that I think I've figured out the print settings, my R1800 does very well.

This is not a comment on either printer, but I have a Sharpie that writes directly on CDs. I don't think a printer's ability to print on CDs would ever be a factor in my decision. Print size is important. Print quality is important. Printing on CDs is, ummmm----how should I say? Oh. Unnecessary.
