It was a tough decision between the smallness of the s45 and the improved features of the g3. After extensive research on digital cameras & best prices of dealers, I finally splurged and bought a new G3 through a trusted N.Y. dealer (B & H photo $729 including shipping), who I have bought from before. Although it was tempting to buy through the cheaper dealers with questionable ethics, it just wasn't worth my sanity!!!
I had a hard time deciding between the s45 (cheaper, smaller, but no flash hot shoe) & the G3. The G3 won my vote because of the hot shoe, remote, swivel LCD screen and extended zoom, but it was a very tough call. The smallness of the s45 was very tempting. I'm an avid Canon Elan 7 SLR photographer and was leary about trying a "point & shoot digital" but the digital SLR's are too expensive. Getting a digital camera will allow me to take numerous shots of each subject, experimenting with various photo techniques without wasting money on printing each picture like with my SLR. I want to perfect my skills.
My fedex package was waiting for me when I got home late last night. It came 3 days after I ordered it....WOW! I can't wait to play with it after work tonight.
