Been a while since I posted in here, or done much shooting at all recently. Life has been crazy! To top it off, I just found out I tore my labrum, which means no shooting for about 2 months after my surgery. D'oh. Had the chance to shoot Chris Daughtry the other night. I had never even heard of him, but I was asked to shoot the show. When I found out he was an American Idol winner, I was not pleased, and not looking forward to doing the show. To my surprise, he/the band was actually really good. Sounded like a 3 doors down type band. I guess American Idol doesn't turn out all complete crap. Here's some shots:

3. I thought this was pretty cool -- He used a megaphone to sing into the microphone with. Never had seen it before, and it sounded neat.

Really good pics. I've seen him in concert and he definately does not disappoint. We seen him when he opened for Nickleback and he was right on par with them.

Nice set. I like Daughtry a lot, however he came in 4th that year. IMO he's the 2nd best talent (next to Adam Lambert who place 2nd this year) ever to appear on Idol.

1. I really like how you captured the audience capturing the concert. It goes one step further and can be seen as a sort of meta-commentary, a statement on the impact of changing technology on unchanging traditions (i.e., shiny new portable digicams with amazing low-light quality, held by teens who still flock to concerts just like they have always done for the past half century). And then atop this you have this wonderful moment where the lead singer is almost saint-like in how he is lit up by this column of light.

2. I would like to have seen the front perspective...I imagine the original was too noisy and dark. Not sure if I would have kept this one.

3. Very nice...a bit more along the lines of the usual "concert photo" but it is carried by the distinctiveness of the subject.

4. Seems a bit empty at the top--maybe crop it just a little bit?

5. See comments for #1. Again, nicely done.

6. I like how you got the color and movement in this...the mic is sort of floating there off to the side, but that's not really an issue. In a way, it actually sort of mirrors the green spotlight--like providing a continuous line of attention diagonally through the frame.

7. Um, ok? LOL. Picture's good, not sure about the whole gas mask thing but that's nothing to do with you. (Seems kinda...gimmicky if you know what I mean).

8. I really like how you bring out the contrast and detail in this image...I do think that it could be cropped a bit on the right though.

Agree with most of the above.
Not sure on the "crop" comment for 4. I would crop #7 a biet (top and left)

I like #1 and 3.

Thanks for the in-depth comments on my photos, much appreciated. As for 2, unfortunately I couldn't access the other side of the stage to get that view. This is definitely the weakest photo in the set, but I tried to do some PPing to save it. On 8, can't really crop it any more while retaining the dimensions without chopping off his head.

#3 and #4 for me. Although some of the others have some potential, the lighting is killing it for me.
