USB Device not recognized

The last time I plugged my s40 camera into my computer, I received a message saying that the USB device is not recognized. I never had this problem before and I had previously downloaded hundreds of pictures from my s40 camera to my computer successfully. I tried using different USB plugs and checked the driver files and they are the most up to date. Any suggestions?

Unplug the USB, turn off your PC.
Then plug your USB back in after it boots up.

What operating system are you using? Do you have any other USB devices connected to your computer? It may be a problem of system resources. In your graphics editing software can you connect with the camera by using a TWAIN driver?
