No. You have to remove the filter, clamp on the head. If you want, you can then screw filter onto the front of clamp. I do this in case dew drops or twigs land near front element.
BTW: The new EF-S 60mm macro is the first canon lens where the 14EX/24EX clamp DOES fit over the filter, because the front element is only 52mm, there is clearance. J.

hi,i have just found an adaptor that lets you fit a ring flash to any 58mm filter thread maybe that will work?ML/ADAP58.what do you think?

Can you send reference link? Do they make it in 77mm? I've been looking for something like this to connect the Canon 17-40 f/4 L to the Canon 14EX/24EX head so I can do wide angle, "showing a thing in its environment" macro. Canon makes their own 72mm adapter, but I have not seen a 58mm or 77mm.
Thanks, J.

hi,i found them on this site.http://www.warehouseexpress.com/.
looks like they dont do a 77mm but they list a 52 and a 58.maybe you could use a stepping ring on your 17-40.
