Okay I put my Alien bees together and seems like the simplest thing I can't figure out....the postioning arm on the unit that makes it tilt, how in the world do I loosen that so I can move the unit up and down?
Thanks
Sure I will have more questions later on....lol!!!

Counter-clockwise loosens, Clockwise tightens. It might take some pressure but you shouldn't have to force it to get it to loosen.

If you pull the handle out, you can reposition it as needed. Other than that, it works like you'd expect it to.

lol.. you'd be amazed at how many people get their cameras or any other kind of gear, and NEVER EVEN BOTHER TO READ THE MANUAL!
But then again, what did I expect from someone who couldn't be bothered to type out '"question" in their thread title.

Amazing how many people don't know the simple mnemonic..."Righty tighty, lefty loosey"

Never heard that one in my entire life Wilt. Never had to.... I knew which way to turn a screw when I was about 6. My dad is a real tool guy. I always assumed everyone knew which direction would tighten or loosen something.

while people know which way to turn the screwdriver, it amazes me that so many do not associate that with a generality of tightening/closing and loosening/opening other threaded things...the OP is a case in point
Of course, it does not help that closing the Hot water tap is typically in the other direction from the Cold water tap!

I read the manual BEFORE I asked the question and could not find the answer!

There was also a orange sticker on it saying something about a tool that came with it and I could not find ANY extra supplies so I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something that I paid for!

Don't worry about asking the questions, Carla. You'll always get a few "RTM" comments back from some ... but for the most part the members here at POTN forums are very helpful and willing to share their knowledge.

No harm done Carla. I'm not sure what tool is supplied but it's not needed for basic use and operation. More than likely the handle was just tightened at the factory and you have to put some mmph into it.
I do read manuals but sometimes we don't see the obvious and sometimes manuals are void of information or don't describe features. Quite often there are omissions for no apparent reason at all.
There will always be someone to give you the old "RTFM" response. Don't sweat it. The forums and members here are always happy to help out and give you answers despite the fact that those answers may be quite obvious to others.

Looks like Jason beat me to it but expressed the same sentiment. :D

Carla,
Ignore the cheap shots......there are enough folks here that are willing to explain and answer....you'll always find the help you need from someone ( or lots of 'someones...' ).
And you were right to start out cautious...and ask the question. Better that then to NOT ask....and start out by breaking your new toy ! You are going to have fun with the light...and whatever else you got. Having light you can control really opens up a whole new world of creative possibilities. Have fun....and post up some samples of what you are shooting !

There's no dumb questions - just some dumb answers.
