I think he is a cutie and those eyes really stand out. I would love to see the color version. as for a critique youll have to wait for someone who knows what they are talking lol.

I just looked through your flickr pages and you have some good stuff there. They don't look like "beginner" shots to me.
This shot is ok. But the same image on flickr looks a little better to me. The eyes here look a tad over done. Have you touched them up with a little blue?
When you get to the bottom of the page and still have a big fat zero in the comments column is the time say don't give up the day job :lol:

I like it but it's a hair overdone on the eyes. They're almost spooky but lighting and idea is great.

I think this is a nice shot and I like that it's b&w. The eyes are definitely overdone, but the composition is great.

Scrumpy...I bought my 400D (my 1st ever dslr) for xmas this year so I still consider myself a beginner! But hey no plans to give up my day job for a looooooong time yet lol
...you've all pretty much confirmed what I figured....its so easy to keep doing a bit, doing a bit, doing a bit....overdoing a lot! I shall have to learn to put the laptop down and step away from the Photoshop much sooner :)
Thank you all for taking time out to look, I appreciate it :D

This is a personal taste opinion, not critisism. I think the eyes are ok as far as sharpness and exposure, but personally I'd prefer no selective color on the eye as it makes the kid look spooky like someone else mentioned. As far as composition, feeling, the title "reaching", facial expression, I think this picture is magnificiant! Nice work!

Ann-mom..this is the original colour version with just some exposure tweaking in LR2...his eyes really are that blue! Better??
kingpat..thank you...I've never had a 'magnificent' in any context!! :)

The 'exposure tweaking' in LR2, are you really bumping up the the fill light? The eyes in your last one look unnatural and if you are using too much fill light that will happen. I agree about the b/w version. Leave out the SC and it's a much better image.

Just looked at the LR2 settings and the Exposures been bumped to +.86, Recovery 30 and the Fill light is at 6, Blacks 0...so as far as I can see its just my exposure I've tweaked!
Maybe the eyes were just a little too sharp in the 1st version..thats whats good about C&C...you live and learn :D
Thanks Ann-Mom...appreciate your kind words!
